For many Iranians, Baz Baran is more than a poem. It is a childhood memory, a classroom echo, a rhythm almost everyone carries somewhere in their body.
In the film Khaharan-e Gharib, only a small part of that poem appears, but it is enough to bring back a whole world. The 1995 film by Kiumars Pourahmad, based on Erich Kästner’s Lottie and Lisa, tells the story of twin sisters Nargess and Nasrin, separated between two parents and reunited by chance, who quietly try to stitch their family back together.
